Submit a Proposal

The proposal system for the 47th Annual ARNOVA Conference will close at 11:59 PM EST on Monday, April 2nd. There will be a one week extension for active members only. If you are not a current member, please submit your proposal by April 2nd or renew your membership at www.arnova.org.

ARNOVA-Africa/AROCSA Conference
Join us for the Annual ARNOVA-Africa & AROCSA Conference in Egypt. We hope to review and understand the role of civil society in regionalism in Africa, against the backdrop of changing global affairs; identify and showcase examples of how civil society organizations have actually used regional approaches to achieve results in their work across the African continent.

ARNOVA Asia Conference
Register to attend the annual ARNOVA Conference at Hong Kong University. The theme of the 2018 ARNOVA-Asia Conference is “Evolving Government-Third Sector Relations in Asia.” This conference addresses issues involved in the evolving government-third sector relations in Asia, with a focus on the changing roles of the third sector in public affairs, and their implications for nonprofit management, philanthropic practice, and volunteering. Early Bird registration has been extended to March 31, 2018.

Webinar Hosted by Early Scholars Section
Academic Writing Productivity: Strategies and Best Practices
This webinar will provide early scholars with strategies and best practices for scholarly writing during the academic year and summer months. Our two presenters will share their experiences and provide tips around writing productivity, organization, and accountability. We hope you will join us for the first Early Scholars Section webinar of 2018. Registration is free for all ARNOVA members and $50 for non-members.

NGO Leadership Transition Fellowship Program
ARNOVA and AROCSA, in partnership with the Ford Foundation, have established the NGO Leadership Transition Fellowship Program (LTFP) for Executive Directors from NGO's in Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Gambia, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. The fellowship will begin in September 2018 and end on November 30, 2018. Click the link below to learn more and submit an application.

Community and Grassroots Associations (CGA) Elections

We would like to welcome 2 at-large members to our team: Dr. Rebecca Padot (Misericordia University) and Dr. Theresa Anasti (Oakland University). We also have two at-large members rejoining our board: Dr. Hector Cordero-Guzman (CUNY) and Dr. Catherine Wilson (Villanova University). We're excited to continue the CGA efforts to bring grassroots associations to ARNOVA, and our team is embarking on a new effort to produce "publication primers" to help our young scholars with publishing diverse work on community and grassroots associations.

Early Scholars Section

The Early Scholars Section will host its first webinar of 2018 called “Academic Writing Productivity: Strategies and Best Practices” on April 17, 2018 from 2-3pm ET. This webinar will provide early scholars with strategies and best practices for scholarly writing during the academic year and summer months. Professors Beth Gazley (Indiana University) and Jennifer A. Jones (University of Florida) will share their experiences and provide tips around writing productivity, organization, and accountability. Be on the lookout for more information about this event when registration opens by visiting ARNOVA's webinar page!

2018 SEES Colloquium for Research on Social Entrepreneurship 

The Social Enterprise/Entrepreneurship Section (SEES) of the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action will host our annual SEES Colloquium for Research on Social Entrepreneurship.

The theme of this year’s colloquium is “What We Know About Social Entrepreneurship.” Conference participants and attendees include scholars, consultants, lawyers, and entrepreneurs from around the nation whose work involves social enterprise and social entrepreneurship.

The colloquium will take place at the University of San Diego located in San Diego, California from Thursday May 31 to Friday June 1, 2018. On June 2, 2018, some attendees will engage in a writing retreat.

The goal behind the SEES Recent Publications List is to celebrate the research of SEES members and to encourage the utilization of that research for future scholarship and practical collaboration. TIBS Welcomes the New Leadership Team 

Our section welcomes its 2018 leadership that was elected by the members at the end of 2017:

Brent Never, University of Missouri Kansas City – Vice Chair
Alisa V. Moldavanova - Treasurer

Effective 2018, the TIBS Executive Committee also welcomes three new at large members:
Rita Mano - University of Haifa
Seth Meyer - Rutgers University – Newark
Nathaniel Wright - Texas Tech University.

We are excited the TIBS Executive Committee is now international. We look forward to working with new and existing members, and have some exciting things planned for the year.

VRADS Section News

The Values Section (VRADS) is sponsoring its second annual "Best Student Paper Award" of $300. Topics should be relevant to the Conference Theme and VRADS Mission which is "to provide a home within ARNOVA for those scholars of the Voluntary Sector (VNPS), broadly conceived, who are engaged in the theoretical and/or empirical exploration of the role of values in the sector."

Papers must be accepted by ARNOVA as a paper presentation for the 2018 Conference and the authors, or lead author, must be a matriculated student or have graduated within one year of when the award is submitted for award consideration. The due date is October 1, 2018 sent to Chris Corbett at: chris_corbett1994@hotmail.com where any questions may also be directed.

What is Philanthropy? Documentary Growing Within ARNOVACommunity

"What Is Philanthropy? is a feature length documentary that portrays and discusses the concept of giving within the American context through a critical lens and a variety of perspectives.

The film, available from Indiana University Press, has 4 special features and subtitles in English (SDH), French, Mandarin and Spanish. It also has a free 39-page Educator’s Guide on the Indiana University ScholarWorks site. Your institution can join the growing number that have added the film to their collection including:

René Bekkers appointed as Full Professor of Philanthropy at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam

René Bekkers

 

René Bekkers, Secretary of ARNOVA, has been appointed as Full Professor of Philanthropy at the Department of Sociology of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He will continue his research on charitable giving, volunteering and blood donation. Bekkers will give a ceremonial inaugural lecture on July 12, 2018, at the ISTR Conference in Amsterdam.
