Fifth Annual SEES Research Colloquium on Social Entrepreneurship

Hosts: The Social Enterprise/Entrepreneurship Section (SEES) of the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action and Wingate University (Charlotte, NC)

Location: Wingate University, Charlotte, NC

Date: Wednesday, May 22nd – Thursday, May 23rd, 2019

Cost: There is no cost to attend the colloquium or for the opening dinner and keynote lunch. You will need to make your own travel arrangements, and we will reserve a block of rooms at a local hotel. Details forthcoming.

The colloquium welcomes research in all areas that present innovative and rigorous experimental, theoretical, quantitative, and qualitative methods studying social entrepreneurship and social enterprise. If you are looking for paper ideas, here are some:

How do we evaluate social entrepreneurship?  (This question is also known as the “holy grail” of social entrepreneurship research.)

What are the determinants of viable social enterprise?  Both in the domestic context or internationally.

How do social entrepreneurship or social enterprise contribute to sustainable economic development?

Are there any new pedagogies for teaching social entrepreneurship?

Is there such a thing as “dark” social entrepreneurship, that is, social entrepreneurship that produces social bad?

To contribute a manuscript for this colloquium, please email no more than a 250- to 500-word abstract to Peter Frank at pfrank@wingate.edu and Gordon Shockley shockley@asu.edu no later than February 15, 2019.  Acceptances will be sent by March 1, 2019.

Full manuscripts are not required. The colloquium has always been as much of a collaborative workshop of scholars sharing ideas as it is of presenting new research. However, should you have a draft, submit as soon as you can in advance of the conference to facilitate conference attendees to review your paper and provide substantial feedback during and after your presentation.

We are eagerly looking forward to seeing you in Charlotte. Please feel free to contact either of us via email.
