Dear Colleagues:

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to ARNOVA’s 48th annual conference and to San Diego, California!

We are extremely grateful to our conference co-chairs, Brenda Bushouse and Lindsey McDougle, ARNOVA staff, track chairs, and numerous other volunteers for organizing such a great program this year. Thanks also to the western regional arrangements committee, led by Laura Deitrick from the University of San Diego. Committee members. The dedication and generosity of members in offering their expertise, talents, effort, and ideas to this conference is truly amazing.

Registration fees do not cover all conference expenses, so philanthropic support is critical to keeping ARNOVA fiscally stable. Much appreciated are our conference sponsors and member supporters. Our Institutional hosts this year are: University of San Diego, The Bush School of Government and Public Service Texas A&M University and USC Sol Price School of Public Policy.  In addition to these and other sponsors, also supporting this conference and other ARNOVA activities are the Ford, Charles Stewart Mott, and the Lilly Foundations. Thanks to all!

This conference will mark the end of board terms for John Ronquillo, David Suarez, and Mary Tschirhart, past-president. Their contributions to ARNOVA as board members have been immeasurable and we thank them for all of their service. I am looking forward to the participation of our incoming board members: Mirae Kim, Jasmine Johnson, and Pier Rogers, president-elect. Khaldoun AbouAssi; Brenda Bushouse; Lindsey McDougle; Rene Bekkers, Secretary; and Thad Calabrese, Treasurer, were also re-elected for another term of service. Thanks to all who ran for a seat and voted in this year’s elections!

I hope you enjoy the conference. Our theme, “Nonprofits and Philanthropy in a Polarized World: Speaking Truth to Power and Using Power to Speak Truth,” inspired sessions that promise to be engaging and thought provoking.

See you next year at one or more of these ARNOVA conferences taking place next year:

·       ARNOVA-Asia in Seoul, Korea, June 11-12, 2020

·       AROCSA/ARNOVA-Africa in Johannesburg , July 28-31, 2020

·       ARNOVA/Independent Sector Policy Seminar TBD

·       ARNOVA-North America in Indianapolis, November 12- 14, 2020 -- NOTE these dates are a week earlier than usual

Sincerely,

Angela Eikenberry, University of Nebraska at Omaha
