Indianapolis, IN – The Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA) announces the departure of Executive Director Shariq Siddiqui, who has announced his intention to step down from his role, effective July 31st, 2019.

The Board of Directors will be activating a public search to find a new Executive Director in the coming months as Shariq begins his new chapter as Assistant Professor and Director of the Muslim Philanthropy Initiative at Indiana University’s Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.

Shariq joined ARNOVA in June 2013 and has played a critical role in the development and success of ARNOVA. In his six years of service, the organization has seen growth from fewer than 800 members to nearly 1,500. The organization’s global presence has also increased with conferences and emerging scholars in Africa and Asia in addition to North America.

“We cannot thank Shariq enough for the dedication, passion, compassion, and visionary leadership he has provided ARNOVA over the past six years,” said Angela Eikenberry, President of the Board of Directors, in her statement to ARNOVA members.  “He will be greatly missed as our Executive Director, but he will remain a valued colleague! We look forward to following the success of his career and are hopeful and excited for the next chapter of ARNOVA.”

“I can’t thank all of you enough for the joy of serving in the role of executive director,” said Shariq in a letter to ARNOVA members. “While leaving ARNOVA in this role wasn’t easy – it was made easier knowing the incredible people that make up our board, members and staff.  It would have been harder if ARNOVA wasn’t in such a great place.  Our financial, membership, operations and leadership systems are all in a strong place because of our collective work.”

ARNOVA, founded in 1971, is a U.S.-based, national and international association that connects scholars, teachers, and practice leaders interested in research on nonprofit organizations, voluntary action, philanthropy and civil society.
