Dear ARNOVA Members,

It was wonderful to see many of you at our conference in Austin! We very much welcome your feedback on the conference and ways we can continue to improve. Please be sure to take the conference evaluation survey if you haven’t already. Please also feel free to contact me directly (aeikenberry@unomaha.edu).

If you missed the member meeting during the conference, please see the slides shared at the meeting here.

The ARNOVA Board also met before and after the conference and made some decisions for you to be aware of:

  • We voted on a revised policy manual that incorporates our redesigned procedures and policies. As part of this, we adopted new policies for conference site selection and gift acceptance to add to the manual. The updated policy manual will soon be available here.
  • We approved the 2019 budget and the staff use of a dashboard to measure performance and expectations related to our strategic plan. One area of focus for the coming year will be on continuing to expand conference sponsorships to cover the subsidized costs of the conference.
  • We voted to renew the agreement with the editors of Nonprofit & Voluntary Sector Quarterly for another three years. The impact factor continues to increase, as have the number of submissions to the journal. Last year 616 manuscripts were submitted from 52 countries! The editors continue to work on ways to enhance the quality, inclusiveness, and field-building aspects of the journal.
  • We started a generative discussion to be continued at our May Retreat, considering the questions:

    • What has ARNOVA made possible in our first 50 years? What has ARNOVA accomplished for the field? Where is the field right now that it wouldn’t be if we hadn't been here?

    • What could we make possible in our next 50 years? Where could the field be, if we are creating what is possible?

We will be asking you for input on these questions at upcoming conferences as well. This is a good moment to invite you to join us for our upcoming annual conferences:

  • ARNOVA-Africa – July 22-24, 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya; hosted by Strathmore University in partnership with Association for Research on Civil Society in Africa (AROCSA)
Conference Theme & Call for Proposals (coming soon)
  • ARNOVA-North America – November 21-23, 2019 in San Diego, CA; hosted by the University of San Diego
    Conference Theme

Happy end of semester, holidays, and New Year!

Angela Eikenberry
