Department of Public Administration and Health Services Management Organises Publishing Workshop

Oct 01, 2015

On September 16, the Department of Public Administration and Health Services Management, under the leadership of Department Head, Dr. Justice Bawole, hosted a workshop on how to successfully publish in top-tier peer review journals. Over 50 PhD students and lecturers from across the University were in attendance to hear Prof. Jeff Brudney, Editor-in-Chief of Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly (NVSQ). NVSQ is the top journal in nonprofit studies and one of the top five journals in the social sciences. Prof Dr. Jeffrey L. Brudney is the inaugural holder of the Betty and Dan Cameron Family Distinguished Professorship of Innovation in the Nonprofit Sector in the Department of Public and International Affairs at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Also in attendance was Dr. Shariq Siddiqui, Executive Director of the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA). ARNOVA is a U.S.-based, national and international association that connects scholars, teachers, and practice leaders interested in research on nonprofit organizations, voluntary action, philanthropy and civil society. The workshop forms part of the Department’s efforts to provide its PhD students exposure to the science of publishing in top-tier journals. Dr. Shariq Siddiqui took time to explain to students the benefits of becoming a member of ARNOVA. He encouraged them to make submissions to ARNOVA conferences and take advantage funding opportunities for students from developing countries. Speaking before the commencement of the workshop, Dr. Bawole said the Department is determined to ensure that PhD students of the department are supported to finish well and on time. He urged PhD students to take advantage of initiatives such as the workshop to enhance their capacity. He promised to continue to bring professors from across the world to engage with students if students show keen interest in patronizing such programmes.
