Please attend the Community and Grassroots Association (CGA) section member meeting at the 2015 ARNOVA conference on Thursday, November 19 at 5:45pm.


CGA is hosting two colloquy sessions at the 2015 ARNOVA conference in Chicago on community organizing in the United States. You are invited to attend one or both!


Thursday, November 19 from 12:30-2pm

Saul Alinsky in Chicago: His Legacy on Community Organizing in the U.S. will examine the legacy of Saul Alinsky on the tactics of community organizing and engagement in the United States.

Presenters include: David C. Campbell (UC Davis), Stephen Danley (Rutgers-Camden), Margaret Post (Dartmouth), and Catherine Wilson (Villanova). Quintus Jett (Rutgers-Newark) will serve as discussant for the panel.


Friday, November 20 from 10-11:30am

Activists Talk: How Can Academics Work with Community Organizers? will explore the challenges of collaboration between academics and community organizers in the United States with the objective of advancing robust research partnerships.

Panelists include: Margaret Post (Dartmouth) and Nik Theodore (UIC), as well as nonprofit community leaders from the Chicago metropolitan region, including Michael Beyer (Morrill School in Gage Park), Adam Kader (ARISE Chicago), and Ai-jen Poo (National Domestic Workers Alliance).
