TIBS-Sponsored Colloquium “Homegrown or Imported?: Theory Development and Use in Nonprofit Studies” at ARNOVA 2017

Following our successful panel at ARNOVA 2016 that featured editorial perspectives on theory use and theory building, this year’s colloquium organized by the TIBS Section will shift attention to views of scholars from multiple fields on theory use and theory building in nonprofit and voluntary studies. The main questions asked are: How do nonprofit scholars “build” theory? Are there or should be theories unique to nonprofit and voluntary studies that help define it as a field? How can nonprofit and voluntary studies scholars “use” theory from other fields to improve the field’s research? The colloquium will take place on Friday, November 17 at 3:45-5:15pm in Amway Grand Plaza Hotel (Imperial). It will feature presentations by prominent nonprofit scholars, including Brenda K. Bushouse (Political Science), David Horton Smith (Sociology), and Richard Steinberg (Economics). Colloquium moderators are Megan LePere-Schloop and Julia L. Carboni. We look forward to seeing you there!
