ARNOVA’s Nominations Committee is beginning work on the slate for the 2017 election of ARNOVA Board members. We seek engaged board members who will bring previous experience with ARNOVA and diverse perspectives to the Board. We urge ARNOVA members to recommend those who they think would serve the association especially well. Please submit your recommendations, for yourself or another ARNOVA member, by March 15, 2017.
This year, ARNOVA’s Nominations Committee seeks candidates for the offices of President-Elect and Treasurer of the ARNOVA Board of Directors. No at-large Board seats are up for election this year. Elections will be held in August with service to begin in November 2017 at the Annual Meeting. The Nominations Committee receives nominations from ARNOVA members and also identifies candidates on its own. Once it has developed its recommendations, the Nominations Committee forwards its selections to the ARNOVA Board which makes the final decision on an election slate.
In developing the election slate, the Nominations Committee and the Board are especially interested in the following:
a. Service to ARNOVA: It is preferable that nominees have some previous service with ARNOVA and/or the broad nonprofit research field. Past service to ARNOVA and/or the field prepares potential Board members for their governance role by helping them understand the operation of the Association. Past service to ARNOVA also indicates a commitment to and willingness to serve the Association.
b. Representation: The slate of nominees should represent the diversity of ARNOVA’s current and prospective members, with special attention given to: under-represented populations, disciplinary background, geographical location, home institution, and professional position in the field (e.g., practitioner or scholar). Having Board members that represent a diverse cross section of the Association’s membership helps ensure that the Association is responsive to the different interests and needs of its members.
According to ARNOVA’s Board Policy Manual, nominees for President-elect will not be sitting Board Members. Also, nominees for President-elect ideally will have had previous service on ARNOVA’s Board.
Persons recommending nominees must be a member of ARNOVA in good standing. When recommending yourself or another, please submit a brief paragraph about each person recommended to help us understand why you think he/she would make a valuable contribution to the Board, noting the nominee’s past ARNOVA service, length of membership in ARNOVA, and other relevant information.
Instructions for Submitting a Recommendation
