Session title:

Informing Policy and Practice: Strategies for Disseminating your Research to Multiple Audiences

Presenter:

John Martinez, Director of Program Development, MDRC

How can public policy research move beyond advancing scholarship to actually improving the lives of low income families and individuals?  For the past 40 years, MDRC has been a pacesetter in making research findings accessible to policy makers, government officials, and practitioners so that policy and practice can be better informed by evidence.   This session, facilitated by John Martinez, Director of Program Development at MDRC, will combine a presentation and a hands-on interactive session to discuss strategies for disseminating research findings beyond the academia in ways that can maximize its impact and ultimately improve the lives of low income Americans.   MDRC is a non-profit, non-partisan education and social policy research organization that conducts rigorous, policy-relevant research to determine what works to improve outcomes of low-income individuals and families. The session will begin with a presentation on MDRC’s philosophy, strategy and approach to disseminating results to a wide range of stakeholders.. The session will then become an interactive workshop to share ideas and develop strategies to disseminate your own research.
