“Leading in Building Civil Society: Obligations & Privileges”
Join your colleagues for the 2008 ARNOVA Conference, delivering a dynamic mix of sessions exploring the latest research on the nonprofit sector. Scholars, practitioners, students and researchers from around the globe will present and discuss findings on an array of subjects.
Come and join researchers and nonprofit leaders from across the U.S. and around the world at this premier annual event to explore the latest research on nonprofit sector and nongovernmental organizations. Scholars, practitioners, students and researchers from around the globe will gather in Philadelphia to present and discuss findings on their examinations of philanthropy, voluntary action, civil society and the nonprofit sector. There will be (as always) a broad range of sessions and topics covered.
In addition, this year we also hope to stimulate a larger and deeper conversation about the pressing question of how these activities and organizations may support – or fail to support – the development of stronger and more diverse forms of civil society. This inquiry seems well grounded as we meet in the home of William Penn’s “Holy Experiment,” one of the earliest efforts to create and support a diverse society where people of different religious, ethnic and cultural backgrounds were welcome. Obviously, the challenges in creating such a society remain with us today. Many people look to nonprofit or nongovernmental organizations – voluntary associations, religious congregations, service agencies, and others – to be primary tools for encouraging and supporting that civil discourse as well as addressing those social problems. There will be a special track in the conference program devoted to papers that explore these matters.
